2012 ALL-STAR INFORMATION
by posted 05/08/2012

Dear Parents & Players,

This year, Monroe Little League (MLL) is looking to field two post-season (summer) baseball teams for each of the 9, 10, 11 and 12 year-old age groups as follows:
12 Year Old District ALL-STARS
11 Year Old District ALL-STARS
10 Year Old District ALL-STARS
9 Year Old Non-District ALL-STARS
12 Year Old Travel Team
11 Year Old Travel Team
10 Year Old Travel Team
9 Year Old Travel Team
8 Year Old Travel Team*

*We are hoping to put together an 8 year old, non-district travel team. Information about this will be forthcoming at a future date.

All age eligible MLL baseball players are encouraged to participate.

While the Spring Season promotes instruction, inclusion and fun, the Little League ALL-STAR and Travel Teams are about developing advanced skills, promoting competition, and the development of a winning attitude.

We understand that some players thrive in this kind of environment and other players do not. It is important for parents to understand this upfront also and make this distinction for themselves as well as for their child.

The ALL-STAR and Travel Teams practice and play at a much higher energy level than the regular season teams, as the expectations increase for both the players and parents.

Please read the attached information carefully to fully understand the process.

Sincerely,

Philip L. Hayes
Monroe Little League Player Agent

General 2012 ALL-STAR Team Information

The 11 and 12 year old district ALL-STAR teams are picked primarily based on a balloting process of the 11 and 12 year old Majors team managers and coaches.

If you do not want your 11 or 12 year old child to be considered for the ALL-STAR team and would like his or her name removed from the ballot, please send an email to the MLL Player Agent ( ) by midnight on May 11th.

The 9 year old non-district and the 10 year old district ALL-STAR teams are picked based on tryouts which will be held on June 3rd.  All players interested in being considered for the 9 or 10 year old ALL-STAR teams MUST be in attendance at the tryout.

ALL-STAR (“District”) Tournaments General Format:
  • 1st Round: 4-6 games between the last weekend of June through the 2nd week of July with playoffs terminating by mid-July.
  • Teams advancing to the 2nd round (Sectionals) of play will continue with 3 -4 games with playoffs ending by the 3rd week of July
  • Teams advancing to the 3rd round (States) of play will continue with 3-4 games with play offs ending by the end of July
  • Teams advancing to the 4th round (Regionals) of play will continue with 3-4 games with playoffs ending by the 2nd week of August
  • Teams advancing to the 5th Round (World Series) of play will enter the tournament in Williamsport which ends by the 3rd week of August

The 10 & 11 year-old baseball teams can only advance to the 3rd Round (States). There is no Regional or World Series round for these ages.

Additionally, all “District” teams may be participating in the Route 84 League “A” Division at the same time as the District Tournament.  The Route 84 league adds in 12-14 games to the schedule. This league ends in the last week of July. Additional tournaments may also be considered.

The 9 year-old team is a “non-district” tournament team.
  • This team will play in a tournament at Beardsley starting the last week of June through the 2nd week of July (min of 4 games) with the opportunity for additional games in a playoff format.
  • Parents of the selected players are required to assist in the running of this tournament (fieldwork, parking, raffle, concessions, etc...) and a Tournament Director must be appointed.
  • All play for the 9 year-old team generally ends by the end of July.
  • For the 2012 season, the 9 year old team may be play in the Route-84 League “A” Division. This may include an additional 10-14 games to their schedule.  Additional tournaments be be considered.

As income from the 9 Year Old Tournament is used to offset a portion of the ALL-STAR fee, parents of ALL-STAR players will be asked to volunteer their time to assist.

Fee information will be posted shortly.

Frequency of practices is determined by the Managers. During District Tournament play, it is not uncommon for teams to hold multiple practices during the week or even every day.

IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING OR ABLE TO PROVIDE 100% COMMITMENT TO PRACTICES AND GAMES, PLEASE NOTIFY THE PLAYER AGENT SO THE EXECUTIVE BOARD CAN TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN SELECTING THE TEAM. PLAYERS WHO MISS GAMES/PRACTICES AND/OR FAIL TO NOTIFY THE PLAYER AGENT MAY BE REMOVED FROM THE TEAM.  VACATIONS DURING ALL-STARS IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.

Additional information about the selection of 11 and 12 year old ALL-STAR managers will be sent out on a later date to all eligible managers and coaches.

Play-ups
Parents may petition the MLL Executive Board of Directors to have their child considered to placed on the ballot of the ALL-STAR team that is one level up from their current age group.  For example, an 11 year old may petition to be placed on the 12 year old team.  These requests will be carefully evaluated and decided on a case by case basis.  Petitions must be received by the Player Agent by midnight on May 11, 2012.
